The Real Estate section was formed during 1984, a boom time in Texas and San Antonio.  Every deal made money, lenders  lined up to be equity partners in all sorts of speculative ventures, and there was nothing but blue sky all around.  The section’s first seminar for its members was entitled “Rags to Riches in San Antonio Dirt,” and our hubris knew no limits.

Within two years, everything changed and our next Section seminar was “Dealing with the RTC.”  The remaining real estate lenders and real estate attorneys dove into bunkers and remained there for several years, licking their wounds and trying to figure out how to stay in business.

During the intervening years, the Real Estate Section has remained intact and dedicated to helping its members through education and interaction for all areas of real estate law; residential, commercial and farm & ranch.   The section currently has 194 members.  We sponsor an annual ”Real Estate Law Update” in conjunction with the San Antonio Board of Realtors, which seminars have consistently drawn a good cross section of attorneys and non-attorneys.  We intend to maintain our close ties with the Board of Realtors.
