Giving back to the legal community

The Mentor Committee is composed of experienced lawyers who have volunteered to mentor attorneys with practice-related problems or questions not discussed in law school. These may include issues such as communication problems with clients, office management skills, professional and ethical issues, time management strategies, as well as specific issues related to that mentor's areas of practice. Lawyers seeking the help of another attorney may call or email those listed below.

Looking back at your legal career, you probably remember an attorney or judge who took you under their wing as a law student or a young attorney and taught you the ropes of the legal profession. We encourage you to turn around and now be the mentor for a St. Mary’s student here in San Antonio. We don’t ask for a large time commitment nor are you obligated to hire the student as an intern or law clerk. All we ask is that you meet the student and make yourself available to them as they struggle to figure out how to become a good lawyer. Having a mentor is invaluable to a student and being a mentor to an eager student will remind you why you love being an attorney. The SABA mentoring committee is chaired by Jeff Akins.
