Attorney Identification Badges

The Courthouse Attorney Identification Badges allow attorneys to bypass the metal detectors at the Bexar County Courthouse.

If you still have a Courthouse Attorney Identification Badge with a GREEN stripe on it, you may have noticed that your card expired as of August 16, 2007. As of October 1, 2007, you will no longer be able to use the old badge with the green stripe to bypass the courthouse metal detectors. Renewal badges have been issued and are available for pickup at a cost of $15 to SABA/SACDLA members ($25 for nonmembers) on the 5th floor of the Bexar County Courthouse between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon, Monday through Friday.

First-Time Badge Application Process
Attorneys interested in an Identification Badge may obtain a Bexar County Courthouse Attorney Identification Badge Application in person between 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, at the office of the San Antonio Bar Association, 5th Floor of the Bexar County Courthouse.  The Application Fee is due at that time.  (See Fees, below.)  SABA staff will review the Application, verify payment of the Application Fee, and give the Applicant a copy of their completed Application.

The Applicant must submit the completed, SABA-verified copy of the Application to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department at the front desk of the Bexar County Jail, 200 N. Comal Street, between the hours of 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, excluding legal holidays.  At that time, the Applicant will be fingerprinted by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department.

Fees
The Application Fee for an Attorney Identification Badge is $40 for attorneys who are members in good standing of the San Antonio Bar Association or the San Antonio Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (SACDLA).  For all other attorneys, the fee is $50.  The fee is payable to the San Antonio Bar Association, and is due before the Application is submitted to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department.
